It is with a mixture of emotions that I announce that 2018-19 will be the final season for new content on rihssports.com. The site has come a long way from its inception in 2002. What started as a one-man project to research, collect, and present historical Rhode Island high school sports results to fans has become something much different. To the many athletes, coaches, administrators, and fans who have been kind enough to reach out and fill in the gaps or correct errors over the last 17 years: THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. I'd like to think the site has been transformed by your willingness to share into a community collaborative collection of historical data. But everything has its time and the time has come to take a step back. Maintaining updates for 30 sports is not an easy task and life changes have made the rigors more and more difficult. I still welcome any corrections to existing content or filling in the gaps for past years. Past information will be archived and remain accessible online for the community. In 2002 no online resources existed that pieced together historical content: be it a list of past champions, standings, or postseason results. This gap is what drove the creation of rihssports.com: to provide a forum for fans to access historical information instantly without spending hours reviewing microfilm at libraries. I am happy and proud to know that rihssports.com filled that need for the RI high school sports community for the last 17 years and will continue to do so in its new iteration. The best gift would be that I've inspired someone to take on the task of researching, tracking, and accumulating content with the hopes of maintaining history: whether it is for RI high school sports or any other state or even any other arena: we all are stewards of history.
