  • 1940-41 through 1944-45: a Class A championship was held separate from the State tournament (its teams also competed in the State tournament)
  • 2000-01 through 2003-04: a Division I-A existed independent of Division I (State) and Division II
  • Teams seeded 5-12 in Division I in 2004-05 qualified for the Division I tournament while teams 1-4 qualified for the Division I State tournament
  • 2010-11 and 2012-13 to the present: a Division I tournament is held separate from the State tournament (its teams also compete for the State tournament)
  • 2021: No State tournament was held due to virus so Division I tournament served as the State championship vs. a Non-State one
  • Numbers in parentheses are the number of championships that school won in this division
