- All teams that
win at least 40% of their games qualify for their respected division's
postseason torunament.
However a minimum of eight teams must qualify
- A preliminary
round is needed to reduce the number of teams to eight
- The number of
preliminary games and how many teams receive a bye depends on the number
of teams that qualify for the playoffs. Here are the scenarios:
If
8 teams qualify:
- In
the quarterfinals No. 1 plays No. 8, No. 2 plays No. 7, No. 3 plays
No. 6. and No. 4 plays No. 5
- In
the semifinals the winner of the 1/8 game faces the winner of the
4/5 game and the winner of the 2/7 game faces the winner of the
3/6 game
If
9 teams qualify:
- No.
1, No. 2, No. 3, No. 4, No. 5, No. 6, and No. 7 receive a bye, in
the preliminary round: No. 8 plays No. 9
- In
the quarterfinals No. 1 plays the winner of the 8/9 preliminary , No.
2 plays No. 7, No. 3 plays No. 6. and No. 4 plays No. 5
- In
the semifinals the winner of the 1/8/9 game faces the winner of
the 4/5 game and the winner of the 2/7 game faces the winner of
the 3/6 game
If
10 teams qualify:
- No.
1, No. 2, No. 3, No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6 receive a bye, in the preliminary round: No. 7 plays No. 10, and No. 8 plays No. 9
- In
the quarterfinals No. 1 plays the winner of the 8/9 preliminary , No.
2 plays the winner of the 7/10 preliminary game, No. 3 plays No. 6. and
No. 4 plays No. 5
- In
the semifinals the winner of the 1/8/9 game faces the winner of
the 4/5 game while the winner of the 2/7/10 game faces the winner
of the 3/6 game
