Fast-Pitch Softball Postseason Formats

 

    Division I

  • Top 12 teams qualify for the postseason
  • In the first round: the top 4 teams receive a bye, No. 5 plays No. 12, and No. 6 plays No. 11, No. 7 plays 10, and 8 plays No. 9
  • The first round winners and 4 teams that received a bye participate in an 8-team double-elimination tournament

    Game 1: No. 1 plays winner of 8-9 first round game

    Game 2: No. 4 plays winner of 5-12 first round game

    Game 3: No. 2 plays winner of 7-10 first round game

    Game 4: No. 3 plays winner of 6-11 first round game

    Game 5: game 1 loser vs. game 2 loser (loser is eliminated)

    Game 6: game 3 loser vs. game 4 loser (loser is eliminated)

    Game 7: game 1 winner vs. game 2 winner

    Game 8: game 3 winner vs. game 4 winner

    Game 9: winner of game 5 vs. loser of game 8 (loser is eliminated)

    Game 10: winner of game 6 vs. loser of game 7 (loser is eliminated)

    Game 11: game 7 winner vs. game winner 8 (winner's bracket final)

    Game 12: game 9 winner vs. game 10 winner (loser is eliminated)

    Game 13: winner of game 12 vs. loser of game 11 (loser's bracket final: loser is eliminated)

    Game 14: game 11 winner vs. game 13 winner (if game 13 winner wins, the teams will play another game with the winner capturing the championship)

 

 

Division II

  • Top 6 teams in each division (II-North and II-South) qualify for the postseason
  • In the first round: 1N, 1S, 2N, and 2S receive byes, 3N plays 6S, 3S plays 6N, 4N plays 5S, and 4S plays 5N
  • The first round winners and 4 teams that received a bye participate in an 8-team double-elimination tournament

    Game 1: 1N vs. winner of 4S/5N first round game

    Game 2: 2S vs. winner of 3N/6S first round game

    Game 3: 2N vs. winner of 3S/6N first round game

    Game 4: 1S vs. winner of 4N/5S first round game

    Game 5: game 1 loser vs. game 2 loser (loser is eliminated)

    Game 6: game 3 loser vs. game 4 loser (loser is eliminated)

    Game 7: game 1 winner vs. game 2 winner

    Game 8: game 3 winner vs. game 4 winner

    Game 9: winner of game 5 vs. loser of game 8 (loser is eliminated)

    Game 10: winner of game 6 vs. loser of game 7 (loser is eliminated)

    Game 11: game 7 winner vs. game winner 8 (winner's bracket final)

    Game 12: game 9 winner vs. game 10 winner (loser is eliminated)

    Game 13: winner of game 12 vs. loser of game 11 (loser's bracket final: loser is eliminated)

    Game 14: game 11 winner vs. game 13 winner (if game 13 winner wins, the teams will play another game with the winner capturing the championship)

 

 

Division III

  • Top 4 teams qualify for the double-elimination playoffs
  • No. 1 plays No. 4 and No. 2 plays No. 3 in single-eliminatation semifinal games
  • Best of three championship series is held during the first week of June
